It’s only December, but most of you know that for many, planning for National Stationery Show starts nearly as soon as the current one has closed shop. I have the luxury of starting a bit later — and today I’m so, so thrilled to announce a great project for the 2016 edition — The Legion Paper Trading Card Pack! And I want to invite each and every confirmed exhibitor to be a part of it.

Here’s the skinny: NSS is celebrating 70 years in 2016, and to commemorate it, Legion is spearheading a trading card pack, each celebrating a specific exhibitor, to be a part of our Class of ’70. Exhibitors will give them out at their booths, while Legion will be giving out a special container to hold it all together. Far out!

The concept take a design cue from trading and baseball cards from the ’70s. To see some inspiration, check out this fun Pinterest board — but honestly, we are hoping each vendor uses the concept to express themselves however they see fit.

Legion is supplying the paper from over 3,000 gorgeous options, and any printing method (letterpress, engraving, foil, digital) can be used. So my question to you is, what would your trading card look like (minus the stale bubblegum of course)?

This is where you apply. Remember, you have to be a confirmed exhibitor. All submissions  will be reviewed by representatives from Legion Paper, NSS’s own Patti Stracher as well as yours truly. Right now we are planning for 30 cards.

This is a great opportunity to get your name (and brilliance) in front of attendees. The project will be promoted by Legion, NSS, Parse & Parcel and Stationery Trends prior to the show, and each of the vendors featured will be highlighted in my trends presentation, slated for 9 am on May 15.

Called Taste Makers and Trend Shapers, I’ll be putting together a visual presentation featuring snapshot profiles and standout creations from our special group of 30. My seminars typically sell out, so this will be a great way to get the attention of buyers just before the show opens its doors at 10 am. Legion will even be giving complete sets to everyone who attends!

This is a really, really exciting project, and you’ve got until January 31 to apply. While that seems far off, with the craziness of the holidays, I can’t urge you enough to get started now. Oh, and did I mention that your participation in this is free?

Happy creating, and a big thank-you to Legion, NSS, Parse & Parcel and Stationery Trends!
