Yesterday we travelled from England to Paris, today we circle back to the U.K., to Bristol, to meet Sarah Knight, creator of Stormy Knight.
Inspired by animals and silk-screen printing (among many other things), Sarah graduated in 2006 with a first degree in illustration and has been drawing and printing ever since, illustrating for newspapers and magazines while also designing the Stormy Knight product ranges on the side. Her work sets itself apart with lively design that’s by turns whimsical and chic, but always most enticing.
Sarah’s copper foil designs are finalists in the ‘Best Contemporary Trend’ category in this year’s Henries Awards, the British equivalent of the LOUIE Awards. Fingers crossed that she takes the prize when winners are announced October 8.
All cards are printed onto super-heavy, 100 percent recycled “hairy manilla” card stock using only vegetable inks (however, despite the often yummy subject matter, eating them is not recommended). Envelopes are also recycled, and cards arrive packaged in biodegradable bags. Sarah was kind enough to send me a big box of samples, and the stock lends her work an ultra-luxurious yet also earthy quality.
Stormy Knight doesn’t ship stateside yet, but several of her online stockists do — check them out to see nicely curated collections of British design!
