It’s one thing for greeting cards to be more honest these days — and quite another when they infuse a little dark humor into our ever-changing (and, let’s be honest, often frightening) world. And that’s just what the letterpressed collaboration between 417 Press’ Michelle Secondi and comedian, writer and family disappointment Jess Salomon are.
“I first met with Jess Salomon working on custom event stationery, first for her mother’s birthday and then for her own wedding,” Michelle told me. “I was immediately intrigued by the former UN war crimes lawyer turned stand-up comic, and enjoy following her social media feeds. Soon after Trump’s inauguration, Jess began posting her commentary on the state of affairs — and I knew we finally had a way we could work together again. I felt there was a market for political humor, especially given the funk that all of the United States seemed to be in, and Jess has a hilarious perspective on it all.”
Jess composed the copy, and the two worked together on colors and styling, seeking something clean and witty that reflected both Jess and 417 Press. “We eventually opted for a dramatic black card (white on the inside!) on Mohawk Via Duplex with silver letterpress and my own handwriting to give this series a distinct edge.”
