I am so enamored with this little letterpress collection from Steel Petal Press. Like so many stationery and gift releases that have been landing in my in-box lately, a percentage of the profits from this sweet sextet go to charities ‘presser Shayna Norwood believes in, such as NRDC, Chicago Women’s Health Center, ACLU, ADL and Planned Parenthood.

What I really love, however, is Shayna’s desire that the correspondence that these Protest Cards inspire focuses on “what brings us together, not what divides us.”

She continued, “These cards are about democracy, freedom of speech and what it means to be American. It’s my hope these cards will not only be used to communicate with elected officials but also to start meaningful dialogue with Americans (having) opposing viewpoints. What do we have in common? Not what drives us apart. I am proud to be American, proud of the Statue of Liberty and what it stands for, and proud of having man like Martin Luther King Jr. as a part of our collective history.” All cards are lovingly letterpressed one by one in Shayna’s Chicago boutique. Pick them up here for $4 a pop!

Oh, and by the way, if you’re a Windy City local, swing on by to North Milwaukee Avenue — Shayna’s having letterpress demos all month as part of Chicago’s Year of Public Art program.
