So I am unpacked and (mostly) organized from National Stationery Show, though for the life of me I can’t seem to get my in-box at less than 450 messages (so if you’re waiting to hear back from me, please sit tight & accept my sincere apologies).

When people ask me about trends, I’ve been telling them my theme of the year is elevated. While design themes and inspirations can feel all over the place, standout product shares a certain attention to every conceivable detail that makes it a joy to behold. With that said, I’ve got two caveats about the show pictures that follow: all shadows and weird angles are totally my fault, and there’s some rather off-color language coming your way. So if either bothers you, you should probably stop reading here.

Since hitting the funny bone is often what turns browsers into buyers, I can’t think of a better candidate to profile than Chez Gagné. Founded by a force of nature known as Alex Gagné in 2014, this Los Angeles maker is experiencing exponential growth and is fast becoming a feel-good female success story.

But enough about that — how great is this wall of glittered wine bottles? I can’t think of a more effective way to sell these chic, smart and very cleanly letterpressed wine tags. No wonder business was booming in their booth!When it comes to cards, it’s not just about the copy (which is brilliant) but rather the execution: Good typeface and layout choices, bright envelopes for that extra pop, plus fun add-ons — those are real paper clips! The photos I took of their candles and mugs were dismal due to glare, so I’m cheating a bit and sharing those Chez Gagné sent my way before the show.
