A letter and fancy ribboned box made its way to me several months back from Edinburgh in the U.K. The palm-sized handmade note was tucked in a kraft envelope, both with writing on them.
It’s from Laura Elliot of LE Designs, and this is one of those cases where the stationery must be seen & felt to be truly appreciated. The butterfly is mounted on the card itself, but you can gently lift up its wings.
The envelope reads: Sarah, This is a special little card just for you. Because I love designing and handcrafting so much, whenever I receive an order, I get out my scraps from previous cards and create a quick and simple thank you card to send along with the order. Please find my three cards from your letter-writing campaign in the box. Laura xxx
Then, inside the card, she wrote: Dear Sarah, I am so excited to be taking part in your letter writing campaign. In this day of modern technology when it is so easy just to send a quick email/text, I think it is all the more important to raise the profile of letter writing and card sending. There is nothing nicer than receiving a lovely letter, and the words of the sender meaning so much more handwritten than typed in a text or email.
For me, making cards is so important — each is handcrafted with so much love and I hope the recipient sees this.
The cards I have sent to you all feature butterflies. The paint splatter card is the first design I made that gained lots of positive responses and made me feel like a credible designer. The other two are actually sneak previews from my new collection that I am I currently working on. I really hope someone can gain as much enjoyment from them as I did making them. Love, Laura xxx
I think the lucky recipient will really love these! The cards this very credible designer enclosed are so lovely, and it is clear a lot of TLC went into each one — the paint-splattered card features real paint and little crystals, and the wings on the cards in the top center & left hand side can be gently raised. I didn’t want to raise them so the cards would stay pristine. But these are so sweet, and I look forward to sending them along to someone else! Thank you so much Laura for writing in & donating these beauties.
After getting to provide a glimpse of the artistry that goes into Hallmark cards last week, I thought a good match for Laura’s meticulously handmade lovelies would be one of the four-card packs comprised of a variety of cards from Hallmark’s Sarah Jessica Parker Collection and Hallmark Signature Collection. These have been exclusively made up just for TPC correspondents.
Ms. Parker really thought her collection through both editorially and visually, opting for simple and authentic messages combined with rich paper stocks and lots of fun embellishments. They are definitely the greeting card equivalent of a pair of Manolos! Meanwhile, the Signature Collection Cards are rife with bells and whistles such as removable headbands, usable chalkboards, hair pins, necklaces, satin and sheer ribbon, faux pearls, beads and feathers. Both these lines are only available at Hallmark Gold Crown stores … and of course here!
Thank you so much to you both! It has been really rewarding to see this letter-writing campaign, which I originally envisioned as something I would generate separate sponsors for, evolve into more of a pay it forward initiative. Not that you have to donate anything to participate … but donations are always welcome!
So write in to get some free swag for yourself. Just send me a letter, card or postcard on your favorite paper (which is most likely gathering dust) and tell me what makes it so. My address is: P.O. Box 22133, Beachwood, Ohio 44122.
I will share it here, and then send you even more stationery for your efforts. And to anyone else who is interested in donating, please reach out — I definitely want to hear from you too!
