It’s hard to believe that soon what feels like the entire industry will pack it bags and head to New York City. One event that doesn’t get as much attention as it should are the Blue Print Shows 1 & 2 in New York from May 17-22.
This surface design and print show, now in its fourth year, has a more grassroots vibe to it, as it’s actually a collection of studios and designers producing a print show by themselves for their clients. Every studio is allocated the same amount of space, there are no side walls to a booth, and every name is drawn out of a hat to allocate its placement.
By keeping the prices to exhibit at Blue Print low, and involving more of the exhibitors in its operation and the marketing, the show has steadily grown. This year’s will take place at the Hudson Mercantile.
Once again, A Fresh Bunch will exhibit. “What we love about Blue Print is that the work is the focus of the show,” explained CEO and Creative Director Jenny Morgan. “Because ‘booths’ at Blue Print are simpler than at other trade shows, we’re able to focus our efforts on developing stellar work rather than stressing about designing a booth and its décor. The venue is light and airy, which gives a more relaxed feeling to the show. In this atmosphere we’ve found it easy to have the in-depth discussions we like to have with clients, while clients have described the work found at Blue Print as feeling ‘fresh’ (ha) and new. Clients visiting the show can expect to see both agencies and individual artists, but not so many that it’s overwhelming to take in.”
Representing 19 artists from around the globe, A Fresh Bunch lives up to its name with a wide range of styles and art in a variety of mediums. AFB artists have collaborated with major manufacturers on gift wrap, gift bags, greeting cards, fabric, tableware and more. And, loads of new work from the bunch will debut at Blue Print.
While subject matter spans a range of themes and categories, there will be a special focus on Holiday and Christmas. “From hand-lettering and beautiful botanicals to Santas and snowmen, from placement pieces to all-over pattern, A Fresh Bunch portfolios are bursting with fabulous new work,” Jenny told me. “In fact, current clients are already snapping it up!”
Looking at these new designs from Donna Brady, Jamie Schultz, Vanessa Raidy, Beck Ng, Jill Broadhacker, Jamie Schultz, Jamie Schultz, Petra Santaharju, Linda Briggs, Rebecca Durflinger, Vanessa Raidy and Linda Briggs, it’s not hard to see why!
