Welcome to the wild & wonderful world of Screech Owl Design, created by Jacqueline Schmidt. Her detailed and delightful illustrations blend her love for the natural world with the urban jungle in which she lives (Brooklyn) for creations that are not only lovely, but have a steady if subtle stream of quirky humor running through them. In this universe, little birds perch on cameras and bicycles, and generally act like humans. I love how they tell a little story with such minimal text, like this Capture the Moment blank card.

Or in Hunting For You.

Not all the cards have verbiage on front. This is Keep It Fresh. keepitfreshAll are $4.50 and blank; you can also shop her line at these fine stockists-. Jacqueline’s imagery also adorns an enticing range of everything from tees to calendars in addition to prints and greeting cards. She has even illustrated a children’s book, no doubt inspired by her own adventures as mom to the cutest ginger-haired toddler ever.

It’s not surprising that she’s gotten press from The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Dwell, New York Magazine and countless other publications (including of course Stationery Trends). You can also see Screech Owl in booth 1764 at National Stationery Show this May.

Before kicking off for the weekend, I also thought I’d share some interesting reads I’ve stumbled across this week:

Congrats to Jana Malone, whose photograph of her late father-in-law and his devoted pooch will soon be on a Hallmark card

How I wish all my stationery could fit in here!

Speaking of workspaces, this photo collection by by German artist Bettina Güber turns desktops into brave and sometimes terrifying new worlds.

Smythson is chicly reborn — and look! They are hiring.

This E-card drama & litigation should get interesting.

I am hoping that the color-blocked trend and imagery from bone china will make their way onto stationery this spring.

Here’s a fun infographic looking at Pantone color through the years.

And finally, suddenly my days don’t seem so long!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
