Cursive is very much in the news these days — in fact, a story about reinstating it in Ohio public schools was on our front page yesterday.
I am lucky enough to live in a district where it is still taught, and I can personally attest to how excited kids get about learning it. Yet, cursive is so much more than that — according to this New York Times editorial, it improves brain development in the areas of thinking, language and working memory. It also stimulates brain synapses and synchronicity between the left and right hemispheres, something absent from printing and typing.
But Cursive is also simply cool — and this contest from Campaign for Cursive aims to get children excited about it as they compete for prizes. But hurry, entries need to be postmarked by this Friday!
Here are some of the winning entries from last year.
Cursive really is faster than the wind, isn’t it? Best of luck, everyone!
