Designers tend to swoon over Colorplan, and for good reason. Despite its age — it was first launched in 1936 — its cool factor remains extreme. Versatile enough to be used on everything from business cards to works of art, Colorplan is sustainably made in England in 50 gorgeous colors and eight weights. It also pairs beautifully with any printing process, from digital to letterpress to litho.

To demonstrate this, Colorplan recently released a gorgeous promo demonstrating its capabilities. These pictures don’t do nearly as good a job as convey them as well as the real thing, so read on to get one of your very own for free from Legion Paper, Colorplan’s American distributor. The front is a gorgeous gloss black foil on delicious Candy Pink with sandgrain embossing.

Each card delves into an aspect of Colorplan’s many virtues. They first, at left, focuses on intense color formulas — the image does not capture the amazing contrast of fluoro orange foil on Fuchsia Pink. Each shade is mixed from 50 high-intensity dyes to create its own color signature that saturates every fiber of every sheet.

Next, Colorplan’s White Frost demonstrates the paper’s Purity Principle — by removing natural acids from white shades, they stay brighter and lost longer. The sheet features blind embossing at its best.

Three demonstrates innovative chemistry. The carbon-free Ebony — a breakthrough in paper science when it was launched in 2001 — withstands rub against other surfaces and eliminates tarnish when foiled. It’s also lightfast and fade resistant — and looks exceptionally lovely in black gloss foil.

Appropriately, Park Green with transparent foil highlights Colorplan’s Pioneering Sustainability. All pulp is sourced from managed forests — for every tree felled, three are planted — and at every stage of Colorplan’s papermaking, making a positive contribution back to the environment is key.

Colorplan Bright Red, replete in silver gun metal foil, delves into unsurpassed testing. Colorplan goes through eight rigorous industrial standard tests, from surface integrity to smoothness, to ensure its superiority in endurance and excellence.

The next card focuses on Bespoke Possibilities. If there is a color you need that’s not in the range, Colorplan’s experts will help you create it from a paint chip or color swatch, even in a custom sheet size and weight. Here Colorplan is printed in 4-color HP Digital.

Colorplan Turquoise with cord embossing highlights Transforming Paper. Colorplan strives to go above and beyond the ordinary. Its range of services include sheets cut to size, 25 embossing patterns, multiple levels of duplexing and a whole suite of off-the-shelf envelopes. The shapes you see are actually die-cut so they can be punched out!

Next, Tabriz Blue with blue matte foil was chosen to highlight Colorplan’s Worldwide Availability. Now available in over 65 countries, each sheet is made with care in England’s beautiful Lake District.

Lastly, Factory Yellow with holographic foil is testament to Colorplan’s Supreme Versatile quality. Internal strength, breadth of range and a distinctive surface texture give Colorplan its ability to perform in digital, letterpress, embossing and foil blocking. Pretty spry for 81 years old!

Each artful sheet gorgeous in and of itself; in their entirety they are a treat to behold. Legion Paper has a limited amount to send out so email me your mailing address at sarah@thepaperchronicles.com if you want to snag one for yourself!
