Today’s missive comes a great friend of The Paper Chronicles, Nina Jones of Jonesy, who has actually already sponsored this campaign. This, however, is her first letter to us. Tucked inside a classic Sandra Boynton card, sent from Toronto, was a rather lengthy missive. I haven’t received a card like this in a really long time, it reminds me of the letters I’d get from friends who were at home while I was at camp.

It reads:

Hello Sarah! My favourite stationery … this was a hard one! How could I choose? Too many choices!

In the end, it was easy. I kept coming back to my childhood love for Boynton — perhaps one of the reasons why I am in this business today.

I have always loved Sandra Boynton’s illustrations and collected her notecards, stickers and greeting cards at a very early age.

I would start writing in the card, then move to pages of loose leaf because I would have so much to say. When finished I would fold it up and off went a small diary to my friends far away.

So upon my realization, I set out to find a Boynton card — this isn’t as easy as it used to be! Thankfully technology like Zazzle made this possible for me.

One of my all-time favourite Boynton illustrations + cards is this one I am sending you. I love this little cat! Although you and I don’t love each other 🙂 I do love paper and a handwritten note. With everything moving so quickly around me, I like to stop and take a second to sen a random hello to a friend, colleague or client.

Step two — loose leaf. I have graduated to a more sophisticated Fabriano version. So although technology has changed and tastes evolve, my roots are intact and are as strong as ever. Congratulations on your amazing blog — I absolutely love every post. You have my undying support. Sincerely, Nina

Thank you so much, Nina! I am so glad you enjoy the blog & I really appreciate the support! And, I love your “small diary!”

I gave some thought to who would be a good fit for you, and I think these donations I received back in November 2014 from CardNest are perfect for you. While nothing can replace a favorite, familiar artist one grew up with — and really, who would want to? — maybe you will find a new one to love here.

The subscription service, based in the U.K., sends subscribers to three exclusively designed greetings cards every month by independent artists from across the globe — and there is an international membership for £10/month (about $12.55). You can stop or start anytime.

The three cards arrived wrapped in a bellyband with a bit of info about each artist. From left, they’re from Anna Hurley (from San Francisco), Jacqui Lee (from Calgary) and Blanca Gómez (from Madrid).

Thank you both so much for supporting TPC’s Letter-Writing Campaign!

Getting involved (and getting some free stationery) is so easy. Just send me a letter, card or postcard on your favorite paper (which is most likely gathering dust) and tell me what makes it so. My address is: P.O. Box 22133, Beachwood, Ohio 44122. I will share it here, and then send you even more stationery. And if you are interested in being a sponsor, please reach out … I’d love to hear from you too!
